Best platform debut of 2016 for “The Lobster”

Great reviews, great box office. “The Lobster” started its course on US screens in the best way possible.

The film by director Yorgos Lanthimos opened –from A24- in just four screens in the US, gathering more than 188.000 dollars. That would give the film 47.000 dollars per screen, the biggest platform debut of the year.

On May 27th the absurd comedy with Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz will go wide and it remains to be seen whether it can also do pretty good.

Also, it remains to be seen if there is any chance for Oscar nominations, as well.

Yorgos Lanthimos is preparing his next film, called The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Colin Farrell will again star in the movie and Lanthimos with Efthimis Filippou have written the script.

A24 got the rights for the US release of the movie, while Haut et Court picked up the French rights.

“The Killing of a Sacred Deer” centers on Steven, a charismatic surgeon and a teenage boy who seeks to integrate him into his broken family. When the boy’s actions become increasingly sinister, Steven’s ideal life starts to fall apart.

Production of the film will start in August.
