“Kissing?” is one of the sweetest films of the 57th Thessaloniki Film Festival. The film by director Yannis Korres is a rather alternative romantic comedy.
Just before turning thirty, Danny and Stella are a little bit lost. They don’t know what to do with their future -if they want to do something- or how to move on. But they know how to talk, drink, smoke marijuana and have long discussions about sex, life, love and… Pierce Brosnan.
The film has a rather ironic point of view and is sometimes too aware of its own script, but it remains a rather tender portrait of young love in today’s Athens.
Specific mention has to be made in the mugging scene, where we see one of the well recognized faces of greek cinema, Alexandros Voulgaris (a.k.a The Boy) in the role of Tesla, a robber with a sense of humor.
“Kissing?” is a love story that feels like a puzzle: you get fragments of the relationship between Danny and Stella (their first encounter, the bitterness, the tenderness between them), but you don’t exactly know at what point the characters are in, or how their relationship continues. It doesn’t really matter: the film wants the promise of a kiss (that’s why there is a quastionmark at the title) and will make you laugh or smile at times. It could be our own, completely made in Greece mumblecore.
