Hellas Filmbox Berlin 2017: Greek Cinema in Germany

poster-festivalThe Hellas Filmbox Berlin will take place for the second time in the german capital and will feature 56 films (feature films, documentaries and short films).

The 2nd Hellas Filmbox Berlin will take place in the historic cinema Babylon, from January 18th to 22nd, 2017. The festival’s Opening Ceremony will award the  internationally renowned Greek director, Kosta Gavras, for his contribution to Greece and cinema, while the audience will have the chance to watch the director’s film“Amen.”

The closing ceremony of the festival will include the biggest commercial success of last year’s greek box office, “Worlds Apart” by Christopher Papakaliatis, which will premiere in Germany. The actor/director will be present during the premiere.

Special Tributes

aggelopoulosHellas Filmbox Berlin Festival will host the Outview Film Festival again, giving the opportunity to the German filmlovers to know the Greek LGBTQ film scene. The Outview Film Festival includes two films, «Half Life» by Nikolas Pourliaros and «Smac» by Elias Demetriou. At the end of the films, there will be a discussion with the directors and the Director of Outview Festival, Maria Katsikadakou.

Another tribute is going to be presented for the Jewish culture in Greece through four films. “Ouzo Tsitsanis” by Manousos Manousakis, “Fos Piknonei” by Lydia Konsta, «Trezoros: The lost Jews of Kastoria» and «Portrait of the Father in time of War” by Timon Koulmasis are the films in the program that everyone should watch.

Finally, a photo exhibition entitled as «Gesichter will take place und Räume» by Nelly Tragkousti will take place in box.freiraum. The photographer accompanied the late Greek director Theo Angelopoulos during the production of his latest film “The Dust of Time” which was shot largely in Berlin.
